CT Polar Bears Holiday Tournament

Taking pictures of Hockey last year convinced me that I needed to upgrade my Canon 60D to something more recent.  It's not that the 60D was bad, it's just that in the low light conditions of local hockey rinks and the fast action, I couldn't really get great pictures.  I got plenty of good pictures, but nothing great.

In setting up the Canon 7D Mark II for hockey, I knew I wanted AI Servo mode and area Auto Focus.  This was something new to me, so I consulted the experts at Canon.

Santa also brought me a CF card, so I setup my 7D2 to mirror my RAW images to both the SD card and the CF card.

Away we go!  This is the week for the Annual CT Polar Bears Holiday Tournament.

We were really there to see Wyoming Seminary Girls Varsity Hockey.  Tough tournament for the girls, but still some hard fought games.  Every time I see this young lady play, she is faster and tougher.  That's why I call her the Warrior.

The light was not great, but I purposely set the ISO to 3200 to see how it would come out.  That allowed the 7D Mark II to run at 1/800th, f/2.8 on the 70-200.  I probably could have gone down to 1600 and still been able to stop the action, but I wanted to push it.  While the ISO 3200 still has some grain when you pixel peep, I think for the whole photo it looks just fine.
